Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic has sent a passionate message to Las Palmas fans after the club’s relegation to La Liga 2 was confirmed this week.
The Spanish midfielder has been on loan at Las Palmas since January, after his initial loan spell at RB Salzburg was cut short.
Las Palmas was battling relegation in La Liga when Bajcetic joined.
But Liverpool and the player prioritized the move for the sake of playing time over prestige.
The loan has worked out well for all involved, with the 20-year-old starting 12 out of the 15 La Liga games he was available to play since his move.
However, despite his impressive showings for the La Liga club, Bajcetic could not help Las Palmas avoid relegation.
The Spanish club’s drop to the lower division of Spanish football was confirmed on Wednesday after fellow strugglers Alaves secured a huge win over Valencia.
With Bajcetic set to part ways with the relegated club at the end of his current loan spell, the 20-year-old has taken to social media to send a heartfelt message to fans.
“These are tough days for everyone, but especially for you fans, we have not been able to fulfil the goal of staying in the league you deserve,” he wrote on Instagram.
“In four months, I have realised the fans this club has, and it hurts me a lot that you have failed.
I’m sure you’ll go back to where this club needs to be and I’ll always be cheering as one more of you.
“Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for all the support and for being there always.”
Statistically, Bajcetic’s Las Palmas stint has been transformative.
Averaging 2.3 interceptions and 8.4 recoveries per 90 in La Liga, he ranks among Spain’s top U-21 midfielders in defensive output.
Having gained valuable experience and playing time in Spain, Liverpool will now hope that Bajcetic will return to Anfield in good shape to help Arne Slot’s side next season.
Liverpool and Slot are said to be really impressed with the 20-year-old and will love to keep him at the club.
